Kirsty Raine

I completed my BA Hons degree in Architecture from Leeds Beckett University in 2011. During this time I worked for Tsiantar Architects in Cheshire and when I finished my degree, I joined Farrell and Clark Architects in Leeds. I have continued working throughout my Master’s degree and have really enjoyed the balance between real projects I work on in the office and the more conceptual schemes at University. I have over 5 years of experience in practice and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

My Thesis project concerns itself with how we connect with our cities and how this is effected by the introduction and presence of infrastructure. The project will look to reinvestigate the use of infrastructure as a community tool. It bases itself in Manchester and specifically looks at the Mancunian Way and its effect on the history of the area and the future development of the city.

I have been interested in infrastructure throughout my Master degree. During MArch 1 I wrote my Thesis Dissertation on the Westway motorway in London and its effect on the community as a catalyst for change in the area. This has provided a basis for research and underpinned the principles I am using to design my masterplan for Manchester.
